Three Artists to invest in for Christmas

These are not pocket change prints but art that you need to spend your hard earned pennies on usually more than a months pay check but in the hopes that you not only have a beautiful piece of art for home but something that is going up in value and not just stuck in a bank.

These are three artists I would love to invest in.

                                          DOUG HYDE

Doug or the man behind 'the smile' was one of the first artists I really fell in love with, I remember spotting it at a  house when I was at university and thinking one day I will buy one of those. Doug has recently launched his new collection and each print just makes me smile.

If you are based in Lincoln you can meet the artist at Trent Galleries on 16th October.

ERIN ROTHSTEIN

This hyperrealister Canadian painter grabbed my attention last year with her pieces centred around food and fashion. With fun 'art' treasure hunts and mystery boxes I cant wait to get my hands on one of these for my kitchen.

A guide to buying glasses online

Has Covid-19 stopped you visiting your local optometrist or generally stopped you browsing glasses? With a toddler in toe mine have been bent in multiple places and I needed to venture online and, if you’re reading this article, chances are that you’re in the market for a new pair of stylish glasses / sunglasses that will help you see. I recently bought the sunglasses online from SmartBuyGlasses and had a surprisingly fab experience, I always struggle in store with lack of choice and feel like nothing suits me.

Wide range of styles

Due to being picky and indecisive I am, I found SmartBuyGlasses to be a true shopper’s paradise. I don’t think I have ever seen such a huge variety of glasses and sunglasses from Gucci to Rayban. They have every single colour and model number which regular stores don’t really have.

Price Match

Going online, you also get best price guarantee. After I placed my order, I saw the same frames on another site for £20 less and after I reached out to their customer service, they refunded me the difference as soon as my order was shipped!

Optician Support - just like in store

What really made the difference in shopping online was the support from their optician, Chloe. After I placed my order she emailed me, asking me some questions about my prescription. She was so kind, helpful, and prompt, she helped me finally understand what lens index means - something I would typically just look at in a card form while shopping in-store and pick the one with the best price. I loved that they went the extra mile for me, adding a truly personal touch. It took much less time than going in for an appointment with my eye doctor, and I didn’t need to deal with the risk of my appointment getting cancelled like everything else is these days.

You can still try on "virtually"

Actually, it wasn’t just Chloe that made the experience so great. I also used their Virtual Try-On tool which helped me accurately see how my new glasses would look on me. My face is ridiculously small I could wear children's glasses so not all style suit me. I took a selfie video on their website, which then told me my face shape and suggested the kind of frames that would flatter me the most. I wish I needed to shop for glasses more often!

Different features

The whole process took me less than an hour, compared to the hours I would have spent at a store, feeling confused and under pressure. If you’re shopping at SmartBuyGlasses, I recommend checking out their blue light blocking glasses: a must-have in my opinion, given all the time we’re spending on our screens these days. These are glasses that protect the eyes from the harmful effects of blue light emitted by screens. Even if you don’t have a prescription, I recommend getting a pair. Wearing them at least in the late evening before bedtime has been helping me sleep better. Did you know that too much blue light blocks melatonin production? That’s the hormone that helps us go to sleep.

I would also recommend checking out their photochromic lenses. If you live in sunny Florida or California and spend a lot of time in the sun or are driving for long hours, it’s the best way to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. The sun really is our enemy; it can speed up cataract formation, retinal degeneration, and lead to wrinkles! Photochromic glasses have lenses that react with UV rays to darken in sunlight and vice versa.

SmartBuyGlasses has definitely made me smarter when it comes to eye health. If you’re not looking for designer brands, you’ll be happy to know that they even have £6 frames! This is music to my ears as I tend to leave my glasses anywhere and everywhere and have had a few mishaps here and there.

What do you think of my new shades?

15 'Nesting' Baby Essentials

I have already done some serious 'nesting', a strange term that everyone seems to call pregnant people when they start preparing their home for the baby...not sure I would say I am building a nest, but I have spent a small fortune, my babies wardrobe is better than mine and Adams combined and the nursery is at mood board stage.
15 'Nesting' Baby Essentials
You would of seen a lot of baby content on Instagram but this is the first baby blog. To catch you all up I about to turn 23 weeks pregnant and I am having a little boy, name is top secret but we have three choices. I will do more blog posts and go into more details about how I have been feeling etc but this one is all about SHOPPING.

I thought I would share some of the key items I have already got for baby FK, I will do some separate post on clothing and the nursery when its complete so if you think I am missing the obvious of a cot...that will come later on.
baby_essentials

The traditional moses basket comes in three colours; midnight, linen and dove grey. Most people see a moses basket as an essential for the first six months when the baby is sleeping in your room as an alternative have a look at number 6 on this list for a more modern take.

I am guessing you will need a blanket at arms reach at any one time, so I think I will need to get a few but this one will get a special place in the nursery as its so soft and looks stylish, it comes in three different colours and I just got told you MUST get a cellular blanket to even leave the hospital but don't worry LGS have you sorted and its the nicest one I have seen so far.

One thing I wanted was my home to have more security especially as I’m going to be at home more often and the Blink system is battery powered so no electrician required - YES please. It links to my phone so I can see when the delivery man takes my parcels away without leaving them but it also give me peace of mind.

These come in jersey or mesh fabric and they are for babies from newborn to around 12 months. Being compact and super soft has made this carrier a winner, we have already been practicing with it, although Dylan (the cat) refused to be a model.

Something I have started to 'stockpile' is baby beauty products, when you go to places like The Baby Show you will end up getting lots of sample versions for you and baby.

The Organic Babies Newborn Collection is one of my full size versions and is such a great gift for a new mama with shampoo, oil, nipple balm and nappy cream, the perfect full size starter set.

An alternative to the traditional Moses basket is the SnuzPod3 which is a bedside crib for the baby up to 6 months whilst it sleeps near you, in your room. You can easily lift off the bassinet and there is a reflux incline feature and fits perfectly with my room decor.

Odylique has the cutest packaging, I am already in love before using it. The set comes with baby gentle wash & shampoo, baby repair lotion and soothing salve.

One for Mama to be in this incredible pregnancy pillow, it was the only thing I didn’t think I needed but god once I reached 20 weeks I swiftly changed my mind - your neck, back and pelvic girdle is crying out for one and the BBHugMe does what it says, hugs your body!

If you have ever seen a purple and white sheep around a child, that my friend's is Ewan - settling those sleepy heads he mimics the comfort of the womb with a pink glow and soothing sounds. The deluxe version also features smartCRY®, cleverly designed to automatically activate when baby stirs in the night.

Isn't this why we all have kids to dress them in the cutest of items that you shouldn’t skip this when it comes to towels. A hooded towel is important to ensure your baby gets warm / dry from top to toe quickly. The baby bunny towel is 100% certified organic micro-cotton that’s super soft and absorbent.

A bit different from your standard baby sleeping bag the ergoPouch Clouds Cocoon swaddles the baby so he will be snug as a bug - remember to pick the right tog for the season this easily transforms into a sleeping bag.

This bath grows with your little one is is a whale so what is not to love!!

This super soft bouncer is perfect for baby to get cosy. The bouncer will rock gently with the movements of your baby with no batteries required. Newborn - 2 years

I don't have this but I know a pump is an essential, I would love to hear of anyone who has tried the Elvie or other pumps as it looks too good to be true a silent breast pump that you can use whilst out and about - the dream right?!

Johnson’s is a brand I remember when my little brother was born a brand loved my Mums for years and they have gone for a total re-brand.
CottonTouch products have a lightweight feel to enhance your touch!

The must have for any new mama and so many stunning covers I was quite boring and went for white - I wonder how long that will stay shiny and new for?! The sleepyhead does seem to be the number one things on ever mamas lists and you can get accessories for your one like a toy arch.

It’s a safe area for baby to sleep, play, change and tummy time. Suitable 0-8 months.

A pram is obviously an essential and the Quinny Hubb meets all my mummy needs, something to go to town, go for a forest walk and also have plenty of space for all my shopping with the XXL basket - so many have basically no space for my handbag let alone a baby bag.

The Hubb has three from birth solutiosn I went for the Hux Carrycot but you can also get the cocoon and matching maxi-cosi pebble plus car seat.

One key feature of the pram is the one-hand folding.

FRIDAY FAVOURITES: PUD IN A MUG | MY FAVOURITE SCENT | FACIALS

So the past few weeks have been so busy so with family time, travelling and getting my festive on…but with Christmas out of the way it time for me to start working on the blog again and updating you lovely lot!

So have a look about what I have been loving over the past few weeks.

PUD IN A MUG
It’s a pudding and it takes approximately 90 seconds to make – what is not to love. There are a number of flavours in the Dr. Oetker range from traditional chocolate and sticky toffee and newly launch Banana and Choc Chip taking inspiration from banana bread with gooey chocolate chips!
pud in a mug

With a splash of milk and a microwave oh and a mug you will be in for a treat. I actually think these are pretty perfect for work, just pop the sachet in your handbag.

Facials Continued
In my second month and I have had my second facial although from my last facial after 4 weeks my skin did start to deteriorate again so I think it’s important to make sure I am getting them every three weeks to ensure my skin doesn’t erupt (TMI)– I do hope my skin will be perfect by September for my wedding as these random breakouts are horrible!

Anyway this month I tried out another Medi-Spa close to my work in Richmond called Bodyvie and had a facial mixed with the dermalux light treatment. Which if you remember my last facial (it's here if you don’t) I also had light therapy via a mask.

The Dermalux machine looks a little scary as its huge not just a mask but lights up pink so it's actually quite pretty. So after a nice cleanse, dermabrasion and a face mask this machine was put on me for 20 minutes and even after a day my breakouts calmed down and I am looking to have clearer skin in the next week or so - fingers crossed.

To visit Bodyvie in Richmond visit here.
My Favourite Scent
A fragrance which has featured predominantly in my collection since university has been Viktor & Rolf, it is a bit on the pricer side but it smells of a flower garden and its bloody beautiful. Check out the limited edition 'Flower Bomb' eau de perfume which has an embellished rose, because why not?!

Viktor and Rolf limited edition
Copenhagen
So last year I did not travel as much as I would have liked due to saving up for my wedding and all...but in December I went to Copenhagen to get my festive on, eat yummy food and spending far too much money. Don't worry there will be lots more on Copenhagen starting next week with a Foodies Guide to Copenhagen as there is too much to say for Friday faves but I just had to mention it.
Copenhagen
Art
As I get older art is starting to become more important in my home although both Adam and I are not experts we have no idea what we are doing when we look at art but I believe you should just go with what you love / like the look of. Most of my art consists of animals or a bunch of colours smashed together.

I recently came across a new company called Rise Art and there is so much choice from well known and new artists and i picked up two beautiful peices.
When I said I liked art with Colour EwaCzarniecka’s piece titles “Romance in London” fitted perfectly and it’s currently hanging up centre stage in my lounge and everyone that has come to my house so far has commented on how lovely it is.

Also don’t be fooled by the photo the painting is huge! I also purchased a piece by MarionMcConaghie dedicated to my love of animals again called Earthbound of a dark bird with in a white frame this has not been hung yet but I feel it will go lovely in my Kitchen.

5 Tips To Host The Perfect Christmas Soirée

This post is about some of my top loves 1. Christmas 2. Fizz and 3. Food, more precisely Christmas canapés. So at the weekend I hosted a little Christmas soirée and I thought I would share some details on how to throw one hell of a party.
5 Tips To Host The Perfect Christmas Soirée
I wanted the party / soiree if you want to sound fancy to be quite simple (my house is quite small) with the tree up, Christmas canapés, festive fizz (maybe a cocktail thrown for good luck) and some party games, maybe ending up with another watch of Elf or sing-along with Frozen.

I really wanted to host a Christmas gathering last year but as we had just moved in, it didn’t really work out. Christmas is the perfect time to throw a party but you need to be quick with invites as everyone’s diaries fill up fast! As everyone has lots of events to attend, why not arrange a drinks party in your own home, catching up with friends and family over a glass of festive fizz, such as Mionetto, with Christmas tunes playing in the background and an array of party food and Christmas canapés from M&S.

Anyway, hopefully this blog post will give you a little inspiration if you are planning your own PARTY
5 Tips To Host The Perfect Christmas Soirée
1.       Décor: The Christmas tree is up and festive decorations are littering the entire house, except the front! The neighbours must think I am boring as their house looks like a spaceship…but little do they know when you step in the front door it’s like Santa’s grotto! The decorations are from around 3 years of collecting bits and pieces from anywhere and everywhere. I always have an annual trip to Liberty London to pick up a few more white glass baubles that always look similar to all the ones I brought the year before, but I just can’t help myself.

I also needed to carry the Christmas theme through to the kitchen and as this wasn’t a swanky all white and marble party, for a bit of fun I got these amazing Christmas cups with Santa and Rudolph on the front, mixed with a few festive gold straws. Bonus, they are paper so no washing up!

One item I HAVE to highlight are these cute stockings that store cutlery usually if you are having an actual meal but I just couldn’t resist.

2.       Drink: Mionetto was the sparkling of choice for this party. Made in Valdobbiadene in the heart of the prosecco region in Northern Italy, Mionetto tastes of Golden Delicious apples with aromatic notes of honey, black liquorice and acacia blossom. For a simple yet sophisticated serve simply pour some Mionetto into a chilled flute and add some hibiscus flowers, but if you’re hosting a Christmas party, why not add some prosecco glitter to give your fizz a fun festive twist.

3.       Food:  Again with food I kept it simple and easy. I just went to Marks and Spencer’s Food and got a whole lot of Christmas canapés with posh crisps with edible stars, pigs in blankets, Hog Roast on mini crackling plates, a big box of celebrations and After Eight mints just to name a few.

4.    Entertainment: Pop a Christmas playlist on Spotify and get the party games started. Some we played are Pass the Pud (like Pass the Bomb but with a Christmas pudding) and Gutterhead, similar to Cards Against Humanity crossed with Pictionary.

I would love to know if you are hosting any Christmas parties this December and what you are doing?
