Graduate Fashion Week told by a Graduate

Graduate Fashion Week held an aroma of style, fashion and excitement. 39 universities around the country were there presenting the best of their best. Walking around the stands you could see straight away the effort that was put into this years exhibitions. The stands alone were to an impeccable standard with such a broad mixture of variety.

The catwalk shows were spectacular! Showing off the most creative individual from each university. Chloe Jones, from Bath Spa University went home with the prestigious Gold award, given by the sponsors George at ASDA as well as taking the best Womanswear title with her ‘religious feel’ collection titled ‘Our Father Who Art in Heaven’, using a mixture of stone-grey chiffon and crystal embossed sweat shirting. Chloe Jones was among one of many collections that stood out for me. A few of my favourites were Amy Holden’s collection from the University of Birmingham, with her usage of beautiful, vibrant colours and textiles and Xiaoping Huang from UCLAN. Miss Huang won the Zandra Rhodes textiles award with her accordion-type sculptured outfits and bright primary colours.

I was there myself to present my own work. My studio practice is based on Colour, Glamour and Details. The main of the work is influenced by Motion, Movement and Emotion, interpreted through mediums of film and photography. My Final Major Project Collection is imagery-based and the films are inspired by links of genius and madness. An incredible fine artist who suffers from bipolar nonspecific was the inspiration for a case study: Anna Walton. The aim was not to take advantage but to learn and understand more about the condition.

Through the mediums of documentary, photography and film, I have created an own interpretation of Anna Walton’s mind. A personal interview process with me allowed her to open up about her memories and desires, which let me to a completely different side of an individual’s mind. My final film is a projection of all the insight I had into Anna’s life presented through my own interpretation of her mind.
